The Virgin Diet...What the Foxtrot?

Has anyone heard of The Virgin Diet? Or perhaps you saw JJ Virgin discussing the diet on TV? I didn't...but my Mom did and a couple distinct things stood out to her.  What really stood out was the discussion on rosacea and inflammation.  I've talked about rosacea before and how much it SUCKS, especially if you live in the dry, cold climate of Anchorage, AK.  In case you're not familiar and you think my rosy cheeks/nose are from alcoholism - I'll give you a little synopsis:

"Rosacea (pronounced "roh-ZAY-sha") is a chronic and potentially life-disruptive disorder primarily of the facial skin, often characterized by flare-ups and remissions."

Primary Signs: flushing, persistent redness, bumps & pimples, visible blood vessels, eye irritation, etc.
You see it everywhere, but you may not know what it is. Count yourself lucky if you don't have it!  There are all sorts of awesome "triggers" that cause flare-ups - chocolate and red wine are big ones for me. I know, What the Foxtrot?! My flare-ups have been out of control this year - causing chronic eye infections, giant "tumors" popping out of my lower lids, burning face, icky-acne-looking-bumps, and the new favorite "face dandruff".  DISGUSTING, right?  Yeah...you know you're disgusting AND desperate when you're slathering your head with olive oil every night.  My least favorite part of this fun disorder is people's concern over the condition of my face..."oh you poor thing".  Yes, I already know I'm hideous...  Oh, and it's hereditary. Thanks, Grandpa Fox.  :)

So, anyway...back to the matter at hand - The Virgin Diet.  Mom...our awesome, amazing, sweet Mom with the chronic rosacea and rheumatoid arthritis.  I make it sound like she's old...and frankly, she sounded old - then she found The Virgin Diet.  I'm not kidding...this is our Mom that has been rear-ended by teenage text-monsters TWICE and her neck hurts a lot, etc.  She's been tired a lot because of the arthritis, etc.  And she's only 57 years old...not 80.  Over two weeks ago she saw JJ Virgin on TV and immediately downloaded her book.  The following day she was at the store buying the food.  Two weeks later, she's telling us that she hasn't felt this good since she was 40, her rosacea is not flaring up, she has more energy than she has in a long time, and she can work-out with pain again!  This is seriously AWESOME!  She's been taking care of our Dad and us kids for FORTY years now and she deserves to feel RAD.  :)

Of course, all three of us kids get the "buy this book now" e.mail.  I always listen to my Mom (haha), so I do.  No kidding...every SINGLE thing I like to eat is discussed and excluded from this diet/cleanse thing - cheese, peanuts, corn, etc.  It kind of reminds me of eating paleo and/or the whole 30 route??  The quick synopsis is that these things are inflammatory and are making certain conditions worse.  Hmm...let's see, my rosacea is the worst it's ever been and my hip/neck pain is not improving.  What do I have to lose?  Well, besides cheese, peanut butter, popcorn, etc.  :)

I'm currently on Day 4 and my face isn't burning.  My hip/neck are at a 1 and I haven't seen my fave chiros this week.  I'm chalking this up to cutting the inflammatory BS out of my diet.  I am really looking forward to seeing results.

My questions of the day - I would LOVE feedback on this!  :)

Have you heard of this? Do you have rosacea? Have you had success with The Virgin Diet? Talk to me, goose!

My mom tried this diet after Christmas. I think she lasted a couple of weeks.. I think many of the concepts behind the diet are good, but I'd still recommend going totally vegan if possible. Cheers!
